After over a year of intense development and over three months in a limited release beta, our highly anticipated multi-asset wallet is now available for all to use! Users all around the world have been clamoring for a private, secure, open-source, and easy to use multi-asset wallet they can depend on. We’re more than proud to deliver what our users and the market have been demanding for some time now.
The Edge Wallet, like the Airbitz Wallet before it, utilizes our open source, best in-class “Edge Security” architecture, which has been successfully protecting millions of dollars worth of user value since 2014.
Edge proudly ships with native support for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Augur REP, and Wings tokens. We’re also the only multi-asset mobile wallet that allows users to manually add ERC-20 tokens that we don’t natively support!
Edge employs a modular architecture that allows it to secure and transact with any blockchain or token. Developers of other blockchains are welcome to contribute support for their blockchain through a simple plugin which enables Edge users to transact their digital asset. Users will see an increase in natively supported assets over time as developers all over the world work to integrate their network’s asset into our wallet.
Alongside our support for other assets, we have tightly integrated support for Shapeshift! This will allow users to seamlessly convert funds between the various digital assets and tokens we support.
And to top it off, we’re more than proud to be one of the fastest to include support for Segregated Witness (SegWit) transactions for both Bitcoin AND Litecoin! The crypto-community and our own users have been loud and clear about their support for this highly anticipated upgrade, and we’re happy to do our small but important part in scaling these networks and reducing fees for our users.
Next on the Roadmap
After this release we will migrate more of the rich functionality of Airbitz into Edge. Features such as transaction history export, spending limits, and user selected nodes will work their way into Edge in the next few releases.
We will also be hard at work incorporating the premium service plug-ins that many of the users in Airbitz enjoy, such as fiat exchanges and mobile top-ups. Edge users will not only see more assets integrated, they’ll also see more service integrations as more exchanges and crypto-related services “plug-in” to our wallet.
We’re also constantly working to improve the performance of Edge. Our team is still working through optimizations to help provide a great user experience for users with hundreds of transactions across many different blockchain wallets.
The Edge Wallet is an integration of three core offerings: a hyper-secure and private personal vault, a friendly usable interface for blockchain networks and services, and a single sign-on solution for decentralized applications. All three capabilities will interact to allow behaviors that were inconceivable before Satoshi released the Bitcoin white-paper in late 2008.
Ten short years later, with the launch of our Edge Wallet a hypothetical user with no digital asset of any kind will be able to download our application for free on iOS or Android, exchange their fiat for Bitcoin, Shapeshift their Bitcoin into Ether and Augur REP, and finally use our wallet to login into Augur- a decentralized application-with just the scan of a barcode. Within Augur the user will see and transact with the same Ether and REP that they hold in their Edge Wallet.
All of this is accomplished without third party access of the user’s funds or personal info. Not even by Edge. Just how it should be.
The future is here and we’re ecstatic to help lead the way.
